Unbeknownst to the town and Eila, however, is that someone does know what really happened to Elizabeth, and he has returned, determined to protect the last surviving Walker from a history of violence.
But what starts out as a quest for redemption, evolves into something more and soon young guardian, Raef, is forced to reveal the truth to Eila. Review:
This is a refreshing and unique new series. I enjoyed the historical hook and references throughout the book that relate to Eila’s experiences 160 year later. Conway does a great job balancing a mystery, adventure and some romance without any of them overwhelming the story.
I occasionally found the other character’s holding back details annoying, but that’s quickly fixed further into the book. Though Raef and Eila’s relationship is very PG, Conway does a good job creating suitably romantic scenes. Additionally, it was nice the other characters were significant; the book wasn’t exclusively about Eila. Each character has a unique personality and role without falling onto stereotypes. Definitely recommended!
