Strong Female Protagonist
Summary:
With superstrength and invulnerability, Alison Green used to be one of the most powerful superheroes around. Fighting crime with other teenagers under the alter ego Mega Girl was fun - until an encounter with Menace, her mind-reading archenemy, showed her evidence of a sinister conspiracy, and suddenly battling giant robots didn't seem so important. Now Alison is going to college and trying to find ways to help the world while still getting to class on time. It's impossible to escape the past, however, and everyone has their own idea of what it means to be a hero.... After a phenomenal success on Kickstarter, Brennan Lee Mulligan and Molly Ostertag bring their popular webcomic into print, collecting the first four issues, as well as some all-new, full-color pages! Review:
To me this story is x-men crossed with college in the vein of “The Incredibles”. Unlike a traditional superhero vs. supervillian, Alison Green is an unmasked superhero who is trying to live a “normal” life. Unfortunately, being a former superhero means grappling with the moral consequences of her actions even if they seem ‘right’ at the time.
I really enjoyed this comic! The scenarios Alison finds herself in are realistic and relatable. She is just starting to realize that her actions have consequences, but it all comes back to the main question, “Is she making a difference?”. Are there absolute lines of right and wrong? The philosophical aspect is well done without dragging and the characters have you caring about them. I’ll definitely continue follow the comic to find out what happens next!
