The Echoes of Love

Summary:

Set against the breathtaking beauty of Italy, “The Echoes of Love” is a passionate, heart-breaking romance to ignite the senses and rekindle your belief in the power of love. Seduction, passion and secrets... Venetia Aston-Montagu has escaped to Venice to work in her godmother's architectural practice, putting a lost love behind her. For the past ten years she has built a fortress around her heart, only to find the walls tumbling down one night of the carnival when she is rescued from masked assailants by an enigmatic stranger, Paolo Barone.

Drawn to the powerfully seductive Paolo, despite warnings of his Don Juan reputation and rumours that he keeps a mistress, Venetia can't help being caught up in the smouldering passion that ignites between them. When she finds herself assigned to a project at his magnificent home deep in the Tuscan countryside, Venetia not only faces a beautiful young rival but also a sinister count and dark forces in the shadows, determined to come between them.

Can Venetia trust that love will triumph, even over her own demons? Or will Paolo's carefully guarded, devastating secret tear them apart forever? (Summary and book cover courtesy of goodreads.com)

Review:

I can honestly say I’ve never read another author who evokes such vivid scenery in as much detail as Hannah Fielding.  While at times it was almost over-the-top for me, somehow she made it all come together in a way that didn’t feel overwhelming.  Throughout the story, Fielding manages to fit in cultural, architectural and historical references completely transporting the reader until they’re immersed in the sights, smells and tastes of Italy.  I was not the biggest fan of Venice when I visited, but now I’m tempted to go back to give it another chance!

The story itself is certainly not a run-of-the-mill romance either.  The two main characters must fight their aversion to trust someone after surviving traumatic pasts.  Both have hurdles they must surpass before surrendering to love, but even then will their pasts come to haunt them?  I guessed the big reveal before the end of the book, but I was still surprised how it all came together!  This was a great read that will keep you wondering until the last chapter.

Warning: Contains sexual content

Rating: 4 stars!

Who should read it? Readers who want to be transported into another country in all its detail in addition to the story.
