A Wicked Love (Witches of Cullowhee #2)
Summary:
Lacey Monahan is in a tough place in her life. After being betrayed by her boyfriend and fired from her job as a teacher in Portland, she seeks refuge in the mountains of western North Carolina, where she hopes to discover the origins of her great-great-grandmother, Abigail Pendergrass Lowry.
While there, she meets Rafe Prewitt, a former Motocross racer with a sensual smile who sets his sights on Lacey. Though Rafe's touch sends her over the moon, she's afraid to let another man close, especially a good-looking, smooth-talking man with hot eyes and wicked hands.
When she's given a chance to stay in Cullowhee and discover more about her mysterious ancestress and the buried secrets of her heritage, Lacey must make a decision: Stay and risk having her heart broken, or return to Portland without ever knowing if she could love again. Review:
As a big fan of the Daughters of the People series, I was very excited to see there was another series by Lucy Varna and I wasn’t disappointed! As soon as I started reading, I knew I was settling in for a great story. I would describe “A Wicked Love” as paranormal “light” and romance weaved together. Lacey is struggling to find what is really right in life and is overwhelmed with her draw to North Carolina. As she spends more time there, we as the readers get to see her come to terms with her heritage and figure out what she really wants in life.
I think this series would appeal to a larger audience because the paranormal aspect manifests itself in a particular skill for something. This was a nice change from the majority of fantasy that involved flashy magic and unique abilities. My one observation would be that the story felt like it wrapped up quickly after a few big reveals in a row. I think I would have liked to see Lacey trying to embrace her “otherness” a little more before the end of the book or a little more of the knitting club’s relationship. In any event, I am excited to see what’s next in this series – hopefully Gabi and Rafe’s brother have happy endings in their future?
Warning: Contains some sexual content
Rating: 5 stars!
Who should read it? Chick Lit fans looking for something with a little historical context and a solid dose of romance.
