Review:
This book is fantastic! I really cannot gush enough about it. What a wonderful way to make the classics more accessible to a younger audience, people who are not sure if they want to commit to reading a classic and folks who love manga! I think this is a brilliant way to make such lasting stories more accessible…in fact I am planning on reading the manga version of “Great Expectations” as soon as I can because I haven’t managed to get to that book yet.
Stacey King does a great job shortening the text, but still staying true to the story, including all the important aspects and making very slight modernizations to keep the book relevant. I was leery of how the book could be shortened and was very impressed! Of course the reader will not get the same level of detail, but Po Tse manages to cover some of the gaps with wonderful illustrations. I’d highly recommend this to readers looking for an introduction to classics or Austen fans looking for a new re-telling of this classic tale.
