Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables #1)

Summary:

As soon as Anne Shirley arrived at the snug, white farmhouse called Green Gables, she knew she wanted to stay forever... but would the Cuthberts send her back to the orphanage? Anne knows she's not what they expected -- a skinny girl with decidedly red hair and a temper to match.  If only she could  convince them to let her stay, she'd try very hard  not to keep rushing headlong into scrapes or blurt  out the very first thing she had to say.  Anne was not like anybody else, everyone at Green Gables agreed; she was special -- a girl with an enormous imagination.  This orphan girl dreamed of the day when she could call herself Anne of Green Gables.  (Summary and book cover courtesy of goodreads.com)

Review:

Oh, how I wish I had read this book when I was younger!  But on the flip side, I am not sure that I would have noticed all the moments where Marilla and Matthew had to try hard not to laugh.

Anne is a boisterous, happy-go-lucky girl that brings enthusiasm and joy into every occasion.  I just adore the way she brings out the beauty in everything she does – even if it gets her into trouble quite often.  Reading about her upbringing is like getting a fresh glimpse of life and the potential that each day has to offer.  I particularly love how she manages to win over even the harshest of critics (perhaps with exception of Josie Pye…).

This is a simple story that about the coming of age of a young and awkward girl.  There are no grand conflicts, yet it is a story that everyone should give a read.  I will certainly be continuing the series and now I am extremely interested in going to visit Nova Scotia!

Rating: 5 stars!
