Marked (Soul Guardians #1)

Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Kara Nightingale is unpopular, awkward and positively ordinary—that is until one day she is struck by a bus and dies...Within moments her life changes from ordinary to extraordinary as she wakes up in a mysterious world with a new career—as a rookie for the Guardian Angel Legion. Kara is pulled into the supernatural where monkeys drive the elevators, oracles scurry above giant crystal balls and where demons feed on the souls of mortals.

When an Elemental child is kidnapped, Kara is sent on a danger-filled quest and plunges into a situation more dangerous and deadly than anything she could ever imagine.

From the best-selling author comes this captivating, funny debut novel and winner of the Readers’ Favorite Award. (Summary and book cover courtesy of goodreads.com)

Review:

Kara is having a rough day.  Hit by a bus? Check.  Monkey giving you attitude?  So Annoying. Realizing you’re dead?  Huh.

This is a series that I got sucked into and quickly read at least three books before I came up for air.  The premise is unique and intriguing.  (I am convinced the movie R.I.P.D. was inspired by this series though a different direction.)  As David, her mentor, teaches rookie Kara how can she resist it quickly becoming so much more?  But when they realize that Kara has been ‘marked’ by both sides, angels and demons that is, the trouble really starts.  This was a fun, original story I’d highly recommend.

Rating: 4 stars!
