Review:
This book was awesome! It’s definitely on my list of ones I’m recommending to folks right now. I was nervous the book would be more along the lines of horror when I read the cover, but instead it’s a delicious mystery with a great fantasy twist that you won’t realize until a little ways in. Set in Alaska, it had me itching to finally make my way up there because the imagery is gorgeous.
Solina is just trying to come to terms with her brother’s death, but through it she is also forced to grow out of her own shell. I love books that, if not quite coming of age, are coming into your true self. She finds herself stuck with Mani’s best friend and boss who both are hiding something despite finding herself drawn to both of them. There were the beginnings of a love triangle, but wasn’t explored too much in this first book. Instead, Solina finds some kickass female friends and sticks up for herself.
As a warning, the book ends quite abruptly and with you begging for more. I will definitely be looking forward to the next in the series!!
