Seeker (Seeker #1)

Summary:

The night Quin Kincaid takes her Oath, she will become what she has trained to be her entire life. She will become a Seeker. This is her legacy, and it is an honor.

As a Seeker, Quin will fight beside her two closest companions, Shinobu and John, to protect the weak and the wronged. Together they will stand for light in a shadowy world.  And she'll be with the boy she loves--who's also her best friend.

But the night Quin takes her Oath, everything changes.

Being a Seeker is not what she thought. Her family is not what she thought. Even the boy she loves is not who she thought.  And now it's too late to walk away. (Summary and cover courtesy of goodreads.com)

Review:

I really wanted to like this book and I retried it about half a dozen times before I finally gave up.  Initially I thought it was because I had only read it in 10 minute increments, but once I sat down a few times giving it the time and focus it deserved and nothing changed…I admitted defeat.  The premise sounds fascinating, but there are very few explanations given which is extremely confusing.  Even 300 pages in (once I finally gave up), despite having a better sense of what was going on, I just didn’t care anymore.

To some degree, stories should feel organic and realistic, but nothing about the actions of the characters made sense to me.  Quin was a complete pushover and I really didn’t have any patience for her.  Shinbou was also a pushover and unwilling to fight for what he wants and John fights TOO hard for what he wants.  I actually found the young dread (Maud) the most interesting character, but we don’t get a lot of focus from her.  All in all, I was frustrated and had to declare a “DID NOT FINISH”!

Warning: Contains violence

Rating: 1 stars! DID NOT FINISH

Who should read it? Generally I’d say skip, but I could see how some people would really get into it.  I’d say only give it a shot if it looks extremely interesting to you.
