Shadow Lands (The Warrior Chronicles #3)

Summary:

In order to finally claim her title of Chosen and lead the Shadow People out of the Land of Mist, Shanti must make it through a century's old system to test her battle awareness, her fighting skill, and her ability to stay alive. She's about to enter The Trials, and she must do it alone.

Separated from Shanti on a dangerous island, Cayan must learn to use his mental skill while keeping his men safe from the people set out to kill them. But as more Inkna and Graygual flood the island, Cayan hears of a sinister force deep in the woods, rigging The Trials and killing any who venture too close.

Review:

Can I just say THANK GOODNESS the romance finally kicked into the gear I was expecting??  I was between four and five stars, but my relief is so serious that I’m bumping it up.

That being said, I’m actually pretty disappointed by what the Shadowlands ended up being.  The big build up in the previous books seemed to be extremely anticlimactic to me.  I don’t think the challenges were more difficult than anything else that had been addressed in the previous books and it seemed all the rules were thrown out the window.  Despite that, it was written with the laughing out loud moments that I have come to expect in this series.  I do love Sanders and I enjoyed the split in perspectives and how the two stories ultimately merge.  I will be quite curious to see how Breene wraps up the series, but if it’s extended into two additional books I’m going to wave the “trying to sell more books” flag.

Warning: contains violence
