Sanctuary (Daughters of the People #5)

Summary:

Jerusha Mankiller has found herself in a lot of tight spots during her century and a half of living, but her current assignment takes the cake. Her mother, the formidable Blade, has sent her halfway around the world to investigate clues to the locations of Sanctuary and the City of the Sisters. The catch? Her cover is as the wife of her brother’s best friend, a former Delta Force Operator with a smart attitude and a wicked smile.

Playing somebody’s husband isn’t a new cover for Drew Martin, but it’s the first time he’s partnered a woman he’s got the hots for. Unfortunately, Jerusha treats him like her kid brother, and when she’s not, she’s instituted a strictly hands-off policy. One kiss wouldn’t kill her, would it? And at least then he’d know if the wild attraction tugging at him affected her, too.

Tracking down decades-old leads isn’t exactly easy, though. Soon, Jerusha and Drew have their hands full countering the problems cropping up around every corner. Someone is tailing them, the Shadow Enemy turns up in the unlikeliest of places, and an ancient Daughter sets her cap for Drew, leaving him wondering what could possibly go wrong next. Review:

It’s pretty rare that I’m not starting to get tired of a series by book four or five, but I’m nowhere near on this one.  In “Sanctuary”, Varna continues to balance intrigue, romance and the over-arching storyline keeping me interested and trying to equally read the book as fast and as slow as possible.  In this book, we find out quite a few fascinating turn of events in the storyline having me pleasantly puzzled as to what is going to happen next.  As always, we have a kickass heroine that finds herself in a new situation, but this time in Turkey.  Jerusha and Drew fall into their roles quicker than usual, but they have more hurdles to go through.

In order to avoid spoilers, I’ll just say: something I half-expected to happen did not and something I didn’t certainly did!  I can’t wait to find out more and I have some characters in mind that I hope to hear more about!

Warning: Contains violence

Rating: 5 stars!

Who should read it? Fans of kickass women and the series – start at the beginning though!
