Winter (The Lunar Chronicles #4)
Summary:
Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.
Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.
Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters? (Summary and cover courtesy of goodreads.com)
Review:
In this amazing finale of the series, we finally get to see Lunar and what the planet is like. The setup of Lunar was fascinating to me although I found it a bit reminiscent of the “Hunger Games”.
Winter is completely endearing despite her struggles and I found it awesome that Meyer portrayed her as she was, mental health problems and all. And, in the end, Winter ends up being a vital character in the culmination of their plans. I was not sure which direction the story was going to go at first, but I am content with the way that it finished up.
Meyer has some real skill at providing situations (and solutions) that could easily have been swept up with the Young Adult stereotypes, but instead she provides a conclusion based in reality. Because of this, I think that I’ll be able to re-read these books for many years to come.
Warning: Contains some violence.
Rating: 5 stars!
