Review:
This is definitely my favorite book in the series because we get to see Calaena really come into her own person. Before she’s really challenged and really forced to see what she could be facing, her ego gets too much in the way of real progress. In this book, we get to see that (mostly) be cut down to size and how to put it to best use. Rowan is contradictory, understanding and exactly the friend that Caleana needs at that moment.
This book also gives us the opportunity to see where the overall story is going and it is much darker than I expected it to be. We get to see actions happening with Choal and Dorian while Caleana is gone and are introduced to the witches. Asterin is a complex and utterly fascinating character that has me rooting for her despite myself.
This book helps separate the variety of moving pieces going on in the Throne of Glass world and I cannot wait to see where it goes next!
Warning: Contains repeated violence.
Rating: 5 stars!
Who should read it? Anyone following the series, if you weren’t won over by the first, this one certainly will!
