Lioness Rampant (Song of the Lioness #4)

Summary:

"I'm not sure I want to be a hero anymore."

Having achieved her dream of becoming the first female knight errant, Alanna of Trebond is not sure what to do next. Perhaps being a knight errant is not all that Alanna needs....But Alanna must push her uncertainty aside when a new challenge arises. She must recover the Dominion Jewel, a legendary gem with enormous power for good -- but only in the right hands. And she must work quickly. Tortall is in great danger, and Alanna's archenemy, Duke Roger, is back -- and more powerful than ever. In this final book of the Song of the Lioness quartet, Alanna discovers that she indeed has a future worthy of her mythic past -- both as a warrior and as a woman. Review:

This book is full to the brim (covers?) with action and adventure.  I love that Alanna is really growing into her own person and becoming more comfortable with both sides of herself.  This started in “Woman Who Rides Like a Man”, but really comes to fruition in this book.  New friends, lost friends and a lot of changes are happening in Tortall.  The other thing too is Alanna becoming more comfortable with what the future of the country will look like.  In this book we get to see a little more of the bigger picture, which sets things up well for future series as well.

Pierce managed to weave it all together in a way that was realistic and completely absorbing.  I stayed up on my red-eye flight so that I could finish it as soon as possible!  When I read these books the first time, I was devastated that it was the last one, but nowadays you have “The Immortals” series to continue the addiction!

Warning: Contains violence and sexual references.

Rating: 5 stars!

Who should read it? Anyone who has gotten into the series, but I would definitely recommend starting at the beginning.
