Review:
I know a lot of people disagree with me on this one, but this and “Emperor Mage” were always my favorite two in “The Immortals” series. This may partially because I have a deep love for wolves and partially because I really like seeing Daine come into her own. If you’re not interested in seeing what it might be like to be another animal, it could be dull to you. For me, I found it fascinating to try to get a sense of what it might be like to see the world from another’s eyes.
Additionally, I think Pierce does a fantastic job slowly unravelling the full extent of what is going on in Dunlath Valley. Daine is forced to grow up and take quite a bit of additional responsibility and it’s interesting to see how she has those self-discoveries. Her views on immortals and good versus bad is challenge and she may even start to change her mind on some things! I think this gives “The Immortals” series an additional level of complexity in comparison to “Song of the Lioness” where Alanna has some pretty clear-cut enemies. All in all, this is a fantastic continuation to the series!
