Emperor Mage (The Immortals #3)
Summary:
Sent to Carthak as part of the Tortallan peace delegation, Daine finds herself in the middle of a sticky political situation. She doesn't like the Carthaki practice of keeping slaves, but it's not her place to say anything -- she's just there to heal the emperor's birds. It's extremely frustrating! What's more, her power has grown in a mysterious way.
As the peace talks stall, Daine puzzles over Carthak's two-faced Emperor Ozorne. How can he be so caring with his birds and so cruel to his people? Daine is sure he's planning something. Daine must fight the powerful Emperor Mage, knowing that the safety and peace of the realm depend on stopping Ozorne's power-hungry schemes. (Summary and cover courtesy of goodreads.com)
Review:
In this book I think we get to see Daine a little older than she was in “Wolf Speaker” and just realizing that she may have a slightly more interesting parentage compared to others. As she tries to negotiate the Carthaki court without getting into trouble, trouble keeps finding her. There are multiple situations that I couldn’t help, but laugh. Poor Daine! You can’t control it when certain individuals take interest in you.
The ending of this book is one that has always stayed with me. Seeing the rampage and complete chaos makes me silly happy in ways I cannot explain. Just imagine if you could see it in real life! Additionally, there are some wonderful foreshadows for the last book that make me smile.
Warning: Contains repeated violence
Rating: 5 stars!
Who should read it? Fans of the series! It’d be a little hard to pick up if you hadn’t started the series already although certainly possible.
