Review:
This book was much better than I was expecting it to be. I felt sure there was no way that this book could live up to the others in Tortall, but it did indeed. Part of the reason it was successful was because it was set in a completely different part of the world. (Of course it was great to have a peak into how everyone else was doing at different points!)
Alianne is spunky and doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life. She’s tired of her parents breathing down her neck and trying to live up to the pressure of having Alanna as a mother. I think this is a very realistic scenario for the daughter of the lioness and I thought it was interesting how Alianne had to develop into something more over the course of the book. Pierce also takes on some tougher themes throughout the book and I liked the way that she addressed the complexities in a very thoughtful way. Highly recommended for fantasy fans and those who are Tortall devotees!
Warning: Contains violence and sexual references.
Rating: 5 stars!
