Review:

This is a book that I had to push through.  I was expecting something more similar to “The Princess Diaries”, but instead found something very dark that was a bit unexpected within the tone of the beginning of the book.  The premise was intriguing, but the revelation of how the characters were read into / out of the book became a distracting aspect of the story to me.

Meggie gave me polarizing feelings throughout the book.  In the beginning I really liked her, then found her annoying and selfish in her decision-making.  I don’t think I’ll be continuing the series, but knowing the book has been converted to a movie does have some appeal.  Ultimately  an okay book, but I think the pacing and length are a bit off.

Warning: Contains repeated violence

Rating: 3 stars!

Who should read it? Fantasy fans – I think this is a rare young adult book that would be better appreciated by someone who was at the target audience age.
