Review:

Somehow I missed this book growing up.  When I started to read it for the challenge I thought it was going to be a reread, but I quickly realized that it was a new story!  Huh, something learned every day. (Or maybe it's just been so long for me I completely forgot it!)

What an adorable story.  Of course it made me cry as many great stories do, but what makes it a classic are the lessons it teaches along the way.  Sometimes Sal seems so much older than she is and sometimes so much younger.  But what it really made me remember is the awkward transition of a tween – half kid, half teenager.  Along with the chaos of the age is the mystery of Sal’s mother who is missing from the picture.

No spoilers here, but I’d definitely recommend giving this a read if you haven’t.  If you have someone in the family who is a tween, this would definitely be something worth giving them to read as well.

Who should read it? Anyone young at heart – this is a good one giving a read.
